Seafarers are the backbone of global trade, yet their lives are often marked by isolation, uncertainty, and limited access to support. Spending long months at sea, away from family and society, many face emotional stress and mental health challenges.
Restricted shore leave and tight schedules prevent them from accessing basic services such as communication, medical care, and relaxation. In many cases, seafarers are also unaware of their rights, making them vulnerable to unfair treatment and exploitation.
Additionally, emergencies such as health issues or financial crises can arise unexpectedly, with limited immediate assistance available onboard. Their families, especially in coastal communities, also face social and economic challenges due to long separations.
At The Mission to Seafarers, India, we recognize these issues and work continuously to address them through care, advocacy, and support systems.

We provide a safe and supportive environment where seafarers can share their concerns. Through personal counselling and regular ship visits, we help reduce stress, loneliness, and emotional fatigue.

Our teams regularly visit ships to connect directly with seafarers, offering guidance, companionship, and immediate assistance wherever needed.

We act as a bridge between seafarers and shipping companies or authorities, helping resolve issues related to contracts, working conditions, and rights.

In times of crisis, we provide quick support including medical help, hospital visits, and emergency funding to ensure seafarers are not left alone during difficult situations.

We extend our care beyond seafarers to their families through initiatives like education support, women empowerment programs, and community development activities.

Our welfare centers offer free transport, Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor games, and relaxation spaces, helping seafarers reconnect with loved ones and unwind during their limited time onshore.

We organize workshops and awareness sessions to educate seafarers about their rights, well-being, and financial and social responsibilities.

We strive to ensure that every seafarer feels supported, respected, and valued—no matter where they are. Through our continuous efforts, we aim to create a safer and more humane maritime environment.
